A time for family to receive friends will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, September 20th 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 21st at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Reverend Monsignor John McCaffrey officiating. Interment will follow at Rest-Ever Memorial Park Cemetery.
Janie was born on April 11, 1923 to Hijinio and Lillie Bernal in Calvert, Texas. She was a member of the Guadalupanas and the Crusillos, she also sang in the church choir at Santa Teresa for many years. She later became a member of St. Joseph Church in Bryan. She worked for the Bryan Independent School district and Texas A&M University until she retired, where she was one of the first Hispanic to be hired there.
Janie loved to cook for others, she especially loved making tamales. She enjoyed going to church and going to coffee with her family and friends. For twenty years, every Monday afternoon she would drive herself to meet with the “burger bunch” a group of lifelong friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Joe Moreno, Sr.; her parents, Hijinio and Lillie Bernal; two brothers, Fred Bernal, Sr. and Felix Bernal; and one sister, Lydia Rodriquez.
Survivors include her two sons, Joe Moreno, Jr. and wife Josie of Bryan, Rudy Moreno, Sr. and wife Nancy of Burleson; daughter/granddaughter, Veronica Moreno Heard of Humble; three brothers, Art Bernal and wife Rose of Houston, Ernest Bernal and wife Lupe of Bryan, Jesse Bernal and wife Connie of Houston; two sisters, Hermelinda Jaramillo of San Antonio and Mary Olivia Grimaldo of Bryan; sister-in-law, Consuelo Bernal; five grandchildren, Rudy Moreno, Jr., Vickie Moreno, James Moreno, Jennifer Sweed and Mark Moreno; fifteen great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.
