Jon attended Huntsville Public Schools and graduated from Huntsville High School in 1980. In 1984, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Radio Television Film from Sam Houston State University. He was recently honored as an SHSU Distinguished Alumni in the Communications field.
Jon began his broadcasting career at the age of 15 at KSAM in Huntsville. He also worked at KRBE and KKBQ in Houston while pursuing his college degree.
In February, 1986, Jon was hired as a Sales Account Representative at KBTX-Channel 3 in Bryan/College Station. He was later promoted to General Sales Manager, a position he has held for almost 22 years where he was instrumental in leading the sales staff in achieving revenue goals for both television and internet sales. Jon also served as Assistant Station Manager for the past 18 years. In addition to sales, Jon served as anchor for NewsStar 3 at 5 and Brazos Valley This Morning.
Over the last 25 years in the Bryan/College Station area, Jon has been involved in numerous civic endeavors, supportive of many organizations and causes, and most recently served as an officer with the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce.
Jon was a proud Eagle Scout and also received the Order of the Arrow and God and Country Awards. He continued his involvement in the Boy Scouts by helping other scouts earn their merit badges.
Jon is survived by his mother, Willie Jo Boaz, of Huntsville, brother, Joseph Charles Boaz and wife, Eileen, of Huntsville, sister, Jan Boaz Ables and husband, Clint, of Montgomery, Texas, an aunt, Fay Morris Stewart, of Huntsville, nephew, Joseph Carlton Boaz and wife, Deborah, of Huntsville, niece, Emily Grace Boaz, of Dallas, and partner, Sam Boggan of College Station.
Jon was predeceased by his father, Joe Albert Boaz, and his grandparents, Elias Albert and Rosa Fadell Boaz and John Thomas and Annie Grace Morris and by his uncle, Charles Vannoy Stewart.
A Memorial Service celebrating Jon’s life will be held on Monday, April 4, at 3:00 PM, at First Baptist Church, Bryan, with visitation at 2:00, immediately prior to the service.
