Frank Joseph Zemanek, Jr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Broadmoor Place with family surrounding him. Also known as “Sonny”, “Frankie Joe,” and “Zeke” he lived his life to the fullest enjoying many happy times with family and friends.
He graduated from high school at St. John’s Seminary in San Antonio then after moving back home to Bryan he worked at Parker Astin Hardware and bought a fancy blue 1960 Plymouth. At a dance at SPJST Hall in Smetana he met his future wife, Marcia, which was the beginning of over 60 years in creating a legacy together of faith, family and friends.
Frank joined the United States Air Force and served from 1962-1968. He was stationed in Okinawa and San Antonio. He went to work for the U.S. Postal Service from 1961-1999. After retiring from the Post Office he worked part-time for Memorial Funeral Chapel and the City of College Station until 2013.
Frank loved camping, gardening, rafting, family games (including smut), and raising pigeons. He also spent many years working with Boy Scouts, youth groups and teaching religious education. Frank loved to polka and waltz. He was always a lot of fun and loved playing pranks on his grandkids and telling jokes or riddles. He belonged to the American Legion and bible studies at St. Joseph Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Betty Zemanek; his son Gary Wayne Zemanek and his sister, Patricia Byrd. He is survived by his wife, Marcia; sons, Jeffrey Scott Zemanek, (wife Stacy); Michael Kevin Zemanek, (wife Kimberly); daughter Kristine Marie Nash, (husband, Matt); daughter-in-law, Lori Doriocourt, (husband, Guy) and sister, Liz Zemanek. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family thanks Broadmoor Place and Traditions Hospice Staff for the wonderful support and comfort they gave him this past month.
A Visitation and Rosary will be held Wednesday, March 9 at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 5-7 pm with rosary at 7 pm officiated by Fr. Tom Chamberlain, and a Mass of Celebration will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Thursday, March 10, at 10:00 am officiated by Fr. Jim Chamberlain and Fr. Tom Chamberlain both brothers-in-law of Frank Zemanek. A graveside service will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
