Dale attended school in Bryan and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1964. He attended Blinn College for 2 semesters.
Dale married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Madeline Merka, on June 4, 1966, at St. Joseph Church.
Dale worked for the U.S. Postal Service, the Texas Highway Department as a draftsman and performing traffic counts, Butler Building Products, Acme Brick, Culpepper Properties, Kingsville Lumber Company, and Zarske Lumber. Dale and Phyllis owned the Sportsman Den (1970s) and the Rockport Mail Center (1990s) and then began his homebuilding business, first in Rockport, TX and then in Bryan, TX. Dale and Phyllis had many happy homeowners who appreciated their devotion to their clients.
Dale always enjoyed hunting and fishing and being in the outdoors. Some of our favorite memories with him are from camping, fishing, hunting, and sitting around a campfire telling stories. He enjoyed being with family and friends to share special occasions, enjoy a favorite meal, or tell a story that we might have heard many times before.
Dale is preceded in death by his mother and father, his brothers-in-law, Walter Chapman and Charles Benbow, his nephew, Charles Evan Benbow, his niece, Heather Benbow and his special dog, Whiskey.
Survivors include Phyllis, his wife of 56 years; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Christina Robertson; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Brandon Rollins; granddaughter, Madeline and fiancé Connor DeStefano; grandson, Wyatt Robertson; and granddaughter, Summer Rollins. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Carolyn Chapman and Diane Benbow and niece, Ashley Chapman. He is also survived by special friends, John and Billie Holloway, Ed Pohorelsky, Jr., Tulio Vigil, Richard and Jennifer Lilly, Evan and Bonnie Benbow, Omer Everett, Alan Utz and many others.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm, Thursday, May 19, 2022 at the Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Friday, May 20, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan.
Honoring Dale as pallbearers will be Alan Utz, Richard Lilly, Ed Pohorelsky, and Tulio Virgil. Omer Everett and John Holloway are remembered as honorary pallbearers.
