Mr. Pool was a native of Atlanta, Ga., and had been a resident of Glynn County for the past 57 years. He was a graduate of Glynn Academy Class of 1961 and a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1965. He was commissioned as ensign in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service and his duty stations were New London, CT., Dam Neck and Portmouth, Va., Washington, D.C., Charleston, S.C. and Cape Canaveral, Fl. He retired in July 1991 after 26 years of service with the rank of Commander.
He then became a Science Teacher at his Alma Mater, Glynn Academy and retired in June 2005 after 15 years of service.
He was a member of the Golden isles Retired Officer Association, Coastal Pines Golf Club and his first hole in one on April 9, 2005. He was assistant Scout Master St. Simons Island Boy Scout Troop 227.
He was a member of the Christ Church, Frederica, the Choir, the Hand Bell Choir, Docent of Christ Church and team leader for Christ Church with Manna House.
He loved fishing, crystal radios, reading and sewing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard Owen Pool, Sr. and Ruth Campbell Pool, two sisters, Mary Greig and Martha Pool.
Survivors are his wife, Stephanie Harbison Pool, who he married march 10, 1990, his children, Marianne Laguna (Chris) of Austin, TX., Meredith Pool of Hendersonville, N.C., Emily Pool and Evan Pool both of St. Simons Island, six grandchildren, two sister, Kathy Pool and Cookie Pool both of Port Townsend, Washington and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday March 30, 2011 at Christ Church, Frederica. Inurnment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the Parrish Hall after the Services on Wednesday.
