Walter Nichols, Jr. was born August 1,1952, to the union of Walter Nichols Sr. and Dollie Mae Hutchinson. Both parents proceeded him in death. Walter passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Monday, February 20, 2023. He was a native of Chicago Heights, Illinois and had been a resident of Brunswick, Georgia since, 2006.
He received his Associates degree at Wyoming Technical Institute in Laramie, Wyoming, in Auto Mechanics. Walter then enlisted and served in the United States Army Air Defense, where he did tours in Germany, Greece, and South Korea. He had proudly served his country for 20 years before retiring from the military.
He was very passionate about helping others which took him on his next journey of becoming an Emergency Medical Technician. He continued to work for Fort Stewart EMS, MedStar, and LifeStar EMS. He was a huge fisherman. He loved hunting and fishing the most. He was very much into streetcar racing, Nascar, and Indy car racing. He loved other sports as well. His favorite team was the Kansas City Chiefs.
He was a dedicated member of Bay Harbor Church of God. He served as an usher, helped with food drives, delivered meals, and worked with the youth.
Walter is survived by his wife, Gabriele Nielsen-Nichols, of Brunswick, GA; his only sister Barbara (Michael) Claxton of Nashville, Tennessee, Walter (April) Nichols III of Killeen, Texas, Charmaine Adele Nichols of Dallas, Texas, Jessica Nichols of Hinesville, Georgia, Jason Randolph of Gary, Indiana, Ramon (Brittany) Nichols of Statesboro, Georgia, (1) uncle, Bishop R. D. Goodwin Sr. of Chicago, Illinois. He leaves to cherish his memory 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 4 nieces and 4 nephews, 2 sisters-in-law and 1 brother-in-law.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Bay Harbour Church of God on March 25 at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior to service. The family is asking if you choose to come, please wear his favorite color of blue. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bay Harbour Church of God (www.bayharbour.cc/give) or International Seafarers’ Center of Brunswick (www.seafarerscenter.org).
