Shirley Bessinger Gatch, 85, of Brunswick, Georgia entered peacefully into her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. Shirley was born in Monck Corner, South Carolina the daughter of the late Tiny B. Bessinger and the late Julia Coker Bessinger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Grier O. Gatch; a son, Bryan Gatch Jr.; granddaughter, Katelyn Dugger, and brother, Donald Bessinger.
Shirley was of the Baptist faith. She retired as a supervisor from King and Prince Seafood after 25 years of dedicated employment. She was also a cancer survivor. Shirley enjoyed Nascar and Blue Grass festivals. She also enjoyed traveling and camping at Kingsley Lake, Florida. She loved spending time with her family and friends in Unadilla, Ga. and Beaufort, S.C. and taking care of her beloved toy poodle KoKo. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. The family extends special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Homelife on Glynco.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Lydia O’Donnell (Bob); a son, Roger W. Gatch (Karen); ten grandchildren, Cynthia Maxwell, Alicia Blocker, Ashley Langford, Dustin Gatch, William Deloach, Russell Dugger, Steven Gatch, Randy Watson, Amber Power, and Brandon O’Donnell; two sisters, Margaret Ann Hubbard and Betty Lambert (Wendell); seventeen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a very special friend Jerry Austin.
The visitation will begin at 2:00 PM Friday, February 4, 2022 at Bible Baptist Church, (500 Harry Driggers Blvd, Brunswick, Ga). The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM following the visitation with Pastor Mike Landrum officiating. The burial will follow the service in Palmetto Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Russell Dugger, Steven Gatch, Dustin Gatch, Randy Watson, Harold Gray, Ben Blocker, Dominic Watson, and Kristofer Boatright. Honorary Pallbearers will be William Deloach, Jeffery Maxwell, Zach Langford, and Jackson Gibbs.
