Shirley P. Collins, 74, of Brunswick, died Thursday, November 24, 2011, at Fairhaven Nursing Home. Memorial services will be held at 10 AM Saturday, December 3, 2011 at First Baptist Church of St. Simons Island with Rev. Felix Haynes officiating. A celebration of life will be held at The King & Prince solarium from 11:00 to 2:00 after the church service.
Born May 9, 1937 in Taylorsville, Georgia to the late Benjamin H. and Bessie R. Popham, she had resided in Glynn County since 1962. Mrs. Collins was a former realtor with Island Realty, was a member of Glynn County Board of Realtors, served as past president of Multiple Listing Service, and was a life member of the Glynn County Realtors Millionaires Club. She was also a member of First Baptist Church of St. Simons Island, and enjoyed cooking, walking on the beach, riding bikes, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter Sabrina Melanie, three brothers, Nick Popham, Horton Popham, and Hampton Popham, and two sisters, Sadie Willingham and Ruth Owens.
Survivors include two sons, Lynwood G. “Woody” Collins III and wife Donna Johns Collins of St. Simons Island, and James Carlton Collins and wife Mary Louise Watson Collins of Atlanta, five grandchildren, Grayson Cody Collins, William Dalton Collins, Spencer Garrett Collins, James Austin Collins and Stephanie Brooke Collins, a brother, Tommy Popham of Douglasville, and two sisters, Helen Wade and Faye Stockmar both of Rome.
Memorials may be made to Manna House, 1408 G Street, Brunswick, GA 31520 who like Shirley found comfort in feeding FAITH, FAMILY and FRIENDS.
