Ronald Lee Edwards, 76, of Darien, departed this life Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at SGHS Brunswick Campus. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 am Saturday February 25, 2023 at Darien United Methodist Church. A second memorial service will also be conducted at 2 pm on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Locust Grove Baptist Church, 171 County Lake Rd, New Marker, AL.
Born March 13, 1946 in Commerce, Georgia to the late David F. and Jeannette S. Edwards, he graduated from the University of Georgia in 1968. He was a dedicated civil servant, working as a mechanical engineer at Redstone Arsenal, AL until he retired after 30 years of service. Mr. Edwards had been a resident of Darien since 2008, and was a member of Darien United Methodist Church, becoming a lay leader and lay preacher. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, Ham Radio, pottery, gardening, and golf and was an amateur archeologist and genealogist. He was passionate about the children of Haiti, participating in trips to the country to share the love of God, distribute school supplies, and assist in the construction of schools. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Roger “Billy” Edwards and Jonathan Lee Edwards, and a son Clifton Davis.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Mary “Lucy” Edwards of Darien, four children, Keff Edwards and wife Leslie, Millie Edwards, Lora Davis and husband Jeff Wilburn, and Buddy Hill and Wife Christie all of Huntsville, AL, eighteen grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a brother Robert Oliver “Bobby” Edwards and wife Kathy of Commerce, GA and 3 nieces and 1 nephew.
