Retired Master Sergeant Robert Lee Brown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, with the comfort of his family at his side. MSgt. Brown retired from the Air Force in July 1971 after 22 years of service to his country. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 70 years, Margie Brown. The couple were married on November 15, 1952, in Statesboro, Georgia and traveled extensively through their years as an Air Force family. MSgt. Brown is also survived by three daughters, Patricia Elaine Brown; Sandra Gilbert (Ernest Gilbert); and Janice Leah Brown; four grandchildren, Aaron Strickland; Stephanie Reynolds (Daniel Reynolds); Rachael Williams; Paul Michael Brown (Hayley Postell Brown); as well as three siblings, Betty Crosby of North Augusta, South Carolina; Shirley Lewis of Marysville, California; and Ernest Brown of Guyton, Georgia.
Robert Lee Brown was born on February 21, 1930 in Darien, Georgia to Emanuel Brown and Ronie C. Brown. During his early years as a boy, Robert worked alongside his father driving the local ice truck to deliver ice to the residents of McIntosh County. As a faithful servant to God, Robert became a member of the First Baptist Church in Darien as a young boy. Robert treasured his first Holy Bible which was presented to him by his Sunday School Teacher Annabel S. Britt on June 14, 1936. After graduating from Darien High School, Robert joined the Air Force at age 18. Through his many years he enjoyed playing billiards, fishing, and attending his granddaughter’s dance recitals and grandson’s sports events.
During his military career, MSgt. Brown was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas; Francis E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming; Tachikawa Air Base in Japan; Fort Myer Military Base, Virginia; Robins Air Force Base, Georgia; Saudi Arabia; Homestead, Florida; Offuitt Air Force Base, Nebraska; Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii; and Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas. Upon retirement from the Air Force he worked at the U.S. Post Office in Brunswick, Georgia and retired after 20 years as a Postal Clerk.
Funeral services with military honors will be held at the First Baptist Church in Darien, Georgia on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. preceded by visitation from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. The Reverend Jack Peeler will officiate the services for MSgt. Brown. All family and friends are welcome. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements. Interment with military honors will be at Brunswick Memorial Park on Highway 17 immediately following the services.
