Penny Bob Smith, 81, of Brunswick, died Dec. 28 at Southeast Georgia Health System. He was born on Feb. 21, 1942, in Jesup, to parents, John William Ross and Susie Lightsey Ross, who preceded him in death.
Penny served in the Army and also the National Guard. He attended Clarksville Technical College to obtain certification in air conditioning. He worked for several years and retired from Hercules, where he was an electrician. He established his own A/C company, called P. Smith Air Conditioning.
He and his wife, Gale, loved to travel. They traveled to Alaska twice and the New England States twice by RV, and have seen all but a few of the states. Penny also enjoyed trout fishing. Beekeeping was also one of his dearest hobbies. He mentored many in the local community to become involved in beekeeping. He is also well-known for establishing Ellis Point Honey well over 15 years.
Penny will be truly missed by his wife, Brenda Gale Smith; and stepson, Carl Houston (Jessica) of Brunswick. He is also survived by sisters, Aundre Nichols (Ralph) and Sandra Tucker, both of Brunswick; granddaughters, Hannah, Emma and Charlie, all of Brunswick, Katelyn Houston of Colorado, Cidney Houston (Chris) of California and Samantha Woolard (Derek) of Hilliard, Florida; one great-grandson, Jacob Colton Smith, of Brunswick; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, Penny was preceded in death by his son, Allen Tate Smith; and granddaughter, Ashley Houston.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at Glyndale Baptist Church, in Brunswick. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
