Owen H. Whittle

On October 30, Owen Hampton Whittle (Hamp) 71, passed away and has gone to heaven after valiantly and graciously battling a series of long illnesses. He was born in Atlanta Georgia, attended North Fulton High School and graduated from Gordon Military College, Barnesville, Georgia. He attended and graduated from Emory University in Atlanta where he was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity. After many successful years in the insurance business in Orlando, Florida, he moved to St. Simons Island in 1990 and established O.H. Whittle and Company. He has been a diligent supporter for the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia and Served as co-president. He was a member of Christ Church, Frederica and the Sea Island Club. Hamp was a generous man with a heart of gold who loved his family, friends, golf, and animals. He will be greatly missed.

Hamp is survived by his beloved wife of twenty-one years, Anne Tomlin Whittle, four children:Betsy Lonsberry and her husband David of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; Katherine Cree Beard and husband Chris of Charlotte, North Carolina; Christy King Evans and her husband Whit of Macon, Georgia; Jackson Dewitt King and his wife Catherine of West Simsbury, Connecticut, eight grandchildren and countless friends.

A memorial service will be held Monday November 1, at Christ Church, Frederica at three o’clock. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia 4627 U.S. Highway 17, Brunswick, GA. 31520-5011
