Mike spent his early years with his family in Washington D.C. He, along with his sisters, moved into the Children’s Home of Winston Salem when he was 7 years old and he remained there until he was 18. He had many friends(brothers) through his years there. His time at the children’s home was filled with adventures, farm work, and some fun mischief. In 1960, he graduated from RJ Reynolds Highschool and attended several colleges in the area.
Mike worked in sales for many years until a change of career brought him to the food service industry. He was employed for over 30 years at Epworth by the Sea where he baked breads and desserts that were enjoyed by many.
Mike was a true-blue Carolina Tarheel basketball fan and was fortunate enough to attend several games with his daughter, Shannon. He loved watching Georgia football with his wife, Susan, and they spent many Saturdays at local restaurants enjoying the games with the company of dear friends.
Mike loved travel and adventures. His most recent travel trip was a trip he took in 2019 with his wife and 3 area churches to the Holy Land. He cherished being able to walk where Jesus walked.
What Mike loved most of all was his wife and family. He found a special joy in time with his three grandchildren. These interactions allowed him to share his ever-youthful nature and vivid imagination. Mike’s kind heart and unique character will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to FaithWorks Ministries in Mike’s honor.
