Mark Gregory Edwards

Mark was born September 17, 1957 in Brunswick, Georgia the son of the late James “Buddy” G. Edwards and the late Billie Jo Edwards. He was a lifelong resident of Saint Simons Island, Georgia and was a graduate of Frederica Academy in the first graduating class. Mark was a member of Christ Church Frederica and served as an acolyte for the church. He worked locally as a carpenter. He was also the Captain of several shrimp and scallop boats, hand built by his father (Buddy), locally and around the coast of Florida.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, James ‘Buddy” G. and Billie Jo Edwards; his paternal grandparents, James and Anna M. Edwards; his maternal grandparents, William D. and Jeardine Baker Wood. He is survived by his son, John Mark Edwards of Saint Simons Island, GA; a sister, Margaret Edwards of Brunswick, GA; Three uncles, Gerald Edwards (Jerry) of Brunswick, GA, Billy Edwards of Brunswick, GA, and Royce Wood (Bootie) of saint Simons Island, GA; one aunt, Bootsie Shaw of saint Simons Island, GA. Several cousins also survive.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held at graveside at 4:00 PM on Friday, October 21, 2016 in the Christ Church Frederica Cemetery on Saint Simons Island, Georgia. Reverend Becky Rowell will officiate the service. A reception will be held at the church social hall following the service.

Mark loved to fish and water ski in the local rivers, also on the beautiful coastline of Saint Simons Island. He also enjoyed scuba diving and snorkeling in the Florida Keys. Mark treasured the times spent flying with his Dad ‘Buddy” in the experimental high performance airplanes that were hand built by his father. Mark will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.

Memorial contributions can be made in Mark’s memory to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the Golden Isles.
