Laurence, fondly known to friends and family as Larry, was born to Dolores and Francis Sullivan on February 14, 1957, in Chicago, IL. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University, where he began his career in law enforcement. Shortly thereafter, he met and married the love of his life and his surviving spouse, Margaret Sullivan. Together for over 40 years, they raised one child, Matthew Sullivan.
Larry, a long-time resident of St. Simons Island, dedicated his life to public service, first as a local police officer in Baton Rouge, LA, then as a federal law enforcement agent in Texas, Colorado, Florida, and Georgia. He concluded his over 30 year law enforcement career with a rewarding tour as a firearms instructor at FLETC. Larry loved working with and teaching future federal agents which he said was the highlight of his career.
From his early childhood to his final days, Larry fervently traveled around the world at every possible opportunity. He and his wife loved embarking on adventures together, normally cruising the Caribbean or the occasional trans-Atlantic cruise. Between cruises, they loved to visit their grandchildren, Henry and Charlotte, whenever possible. Larry was an avid outdoorsman who loved water-sports, particularly sailing, scuba diving, and fishing. He will be remembered for his positivity, quick wit, and his kind and compassionate spirit. Larry was a loving and caring husband, a supportive and encouraging father, and a gentle and kind grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Larry is survived by his wife, Margaret, his son, Matthew (Kristi), his grandchildren, Henry and Charlotte, and his two brothers, Brian and Eugene.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at St. William Catholic Church on St. Simons Island, at eleven o’clock a.m. The family requests that donations of remembrance be made to Memory Matters Glynn.
