Born March 21, 1937 Mrs. Chapman lived in Brunswick with her loving husband of 66 years, William "Billy" Lawton Chapman. Mrs. Chapman was a devoted homemaker and avid reader who loved growing and caring for African violets for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brunswick and the Berean’s Sunday School Class.
A true servant as long as her health allowed, Joyce spent over 60 years of her life teaching Sunday School to young children and driving them on the church bus so they could learn about God. She will be remembered by many who are now adults as someone who deeply cared about their relationship with the Lord.
Mrs. Chapman was preceded in death by her father and mother, Tot and Onadell Pickren; granddaughter, Beth Chapman; daughter-in-law, Katrina Chapman; and brother and sister-in-law, Harold "Bud" Pickren (Marian). She leaves behind beloved memories to be cherished by her husband, William "Billy" Lawton Chapman; siblings, Geraldine Chapman (Sheldon), Carolyn Dodgen (Dean), and Jimmy Pickren (Debbie); sons, Lee Chapman (Tracy) and Michael Chapman (Donna); daughter, Valencia "Lency" Chapman; grandchildren, Jeremy Chapman (Dory), Autumn Meschke (Paul), Lawton Chapman, and Shelby Chapman; four great-grandchildren, several sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, also many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Southeast Georgia Health System for their support and care in Mrs. Chapman's final days.
A visitation for Joyce will be held Saturday, May 28, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 708 Mansfield St., Brunswick, GA 31520, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the One Generation to Another Building Fund at First Baptist Church, Brunswick, GA.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the First Baptist Church Berean’s Sunday School Class.Active Pallbearers will be Kip Goodbread, Paul Meschke Jr., Lawton Chapman, Terry Toulson, Rev. David Toulson, and Rev. Frank Bailey.
