Joseph Sebastian Savino was born June 1, 1958 and died unexpectedly on January 4th, 2022, at the age of 63. Joe is survived by his wife of 26 years, Kathy; his two daughters, Allison and Kristen; his two sisters, Elisa Morin and Sandra Butto; and their husbands, Steve Morin and John Butto; brother-in-law, Jon Geppert and his wife, Bonnie; nephew, Joseph Morin; and nieces Gabriella and Gianna Butto, and Hailey Geppert. He is also survived by his uncles, Sebastian Fallone and Mike Savino; and aunt, Sandra Kovacs. He is predeceased by his mother, Marie Fallone, and father, Joseph Savino.
Joe was born in New York City and raised in Paramus, New Jersey, where he attended Paramus Catholic High School. He went on to attend Montclair State University, followed by Fordham University for his MBA. He worked for 30 years at IBM, where his work as a sales executive took him to more than 60 countries over the course of his career.
Joe was a man devoted to his community during the 30 years he lived in Ridgefield, Connecticut. He was a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, Police Commission, Board of Selectmen, Republican Town Committee, and Rotary Club. He was also a member of St. Mary Parish, where he continued to attend Men’s Ministry meetings virtually even after moving out of the area. He dearly treasured the many friends he made in Ridgefield.
Anyone who knew Joe knows that family was his number one priority. He married his wife, Kathy, in 1995, and they went on to raise two daughters together, Allison (24) and Kristen (22). Joe was immensely proud of both of them; you could often find him wearing head-to-toe UNC and UGA merchandise to represent their respective colleges. Joe was also close with his sisters, parents, and extended family - his favorite time of the year was Christmas, where everyone gathered together to enjoy the traditional Feast of Seven Fishes, Italian pastries, and family poker game (which his Uncle Seb inevitably won every year).
When he retired and moved to St. Simons Island in March of 2021, Joe spent his days doing what made him happiest: biking, fishing, walking on the beach with Kathy and his poodle Baci, trying new restaurants, making friends, and watching the Green Bay Packers. Although he enjoyed exploring his new home, he couldn’t wait to travel the world again, with plans to visit Italy and the Canadian Rockies in 2022. This past year of life was full of true joy and happiness.
Joe will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind. A mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Brunswick, Georgia on Saturday, January 8th at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rotary Club of Ridgefield, to the Rotary Club of Saint Simons Island, or to the charity of one's choice.
