Joseph Jordan Fennell, Sr. of Brunswick, GA, passed away Friday, May 18, 2018, at the age of 74. A native of Savannah, GA, he had been a resident of Glynn County for the past 51 years. Mr. Fennell was born January 12, 1944 to the late Robert Jordan Fennell, Jr. and Dorothy Wolfe Fennell. He was a 1962 graduate of Groves High School. Mr. Fennell also served in the Georgia Army National Guard for 25 years and retired as First Sergeant, 48th Brigade, 118th Artillery. He was employed as an electrician with the City of Brunswick for 29 years, from which he retired in 2011. Mr. Fennell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brunswick, where he also served as a life deacon, previous Sunday School teacher, and served on several church committees. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packers and NASCAR fan and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting. He also participated in many mission trips. Mr. Fennell loved spending time with his family, especially with his beloved grandchildren. He leaves many fond memories that will be cherished by all.
Mr. Fennell was preceded in death by his father Robert Jordan Fennell, Jr. of Savannah, GA.
He is survived by his loving wife Linda A. Fennell of Brunswick, GA; daughter Tiffany (Kevin) Harless of Mandeville, LA; son Joey (Lisa) Fennell of Statesboro, GA; mother Dorothy Fennell of Brunswick, GA; brother Robert (Debbie) Fennell of Springfield, GA; sister Alice (Jimmie) Wheeler of Brunswick, GA; five granddaughters Annalise Fennell and Madelyn Fennell both of Statesboro, GA and Chloe Harless, MacKenzie Harless, and Gracie Harless all of Mandeville, LA; grandson Jordan Fennell of Statesboro, GA; two sister-in-law’s Rose Marie (Bobby) Miller and Carolyn Harris both of Jesup, GA; brother-in-law Jimmy Arnold of Jesup, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Brunswick, 708 Mansfield Street, followed by the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. with Dr. Chris Winford and Dr. Felix Haynes officiating. Interment will follow at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens 5775 Frederica Road, St. Simons Island with military honors.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Handy Jernigan, Ed Smith, Ralph Small, Kelly Lipthratt, Steve Buckholz, Andy Rosenhamer, Thomas C. Cowan, and Bill Holden.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Brunswick and the Berean Sunday School Class.
The family would like to thank Dr. Marsha J. Certain and the heart transplant team of Mayo Clinic. A special thanks goes to the doctors and nurses at Mayo, specifically Teresa Keister.
