John Staten Smith II

John Staten Smith II died August 19, 2023, at his home on St. Simons. He was born September 3, 1948, in Waycross, Georgia to William Stanley Smith, Sr. and Natalie Buttolph Smith. He graduated from Waycross High School and received his BBA from the University of Georgia. He had been a resident of Saint Simons Island since 1973. Staten retired from Rich Products as a Senior Project Engineer. He was a great storyteller and was well known for his sharp sense of humor and ability to make people laugh. He was a true Georgia Bulldog. He loved to spend time with family and friends and was well known for his culinary skill. He truly loved spending time at the old family beach cottage in Fernandina Beach, Florida.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years Frances Talley Smith, brothers Dr. William Stanley Smith, Jr , wife Ann, of Lumberton NC , brother Robert Bunnel Smith, wife Peggy of Jesup, Ga, and his beloved Boxer, Jake.

He was preceded in death by his son Dylan Patrick Smith, sister Nell Buttolph Smith, and parents.

The family will receive friends Saturday, September 2, 2023, from 4:00 till 6:00 pm at Edo Miller& Sons Funeral Home, Brunswick, Ga. The family will hold a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Coastal Hospice, Saint Simons Island, Ga.
