James David Moore

James David Moore, Sr. passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024 at his residence on St. Simons Island. He was born November 10, 1935 to Ralph Lane Moore and Connie Keith Moore. He was raised on St. Simons Island and graduated from Glynn Academy in 1954. On a full Navy scholarship, he graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Management. While at Georgia Tech, he was a member and officer of Phi Delta Theta. Following college, he spent four years in the Navy as a Lieutenant before returning to Glynn County to go to work with his father at J.D. Moore, Inc., which was started in 1950. He then purchased Barrett Oil in Savannah in 1985. After his retirement, both companies were operated individually by his sons until 2023 when Barrett Oil was sold.

Jim supported his community through donations to numerous organizations throughout his life, previously served on the Airport Commission, was a prior Chairman of the Board at Frederica Academy, and was a member of Kiwanis. Jim was one of the organizers of First Georgia Bank and served on the Board of Directors until the bank was sold to United Community Bank. He was a charter member of Wesley Church at Frederica where he served on the Greeters Committee and helped deliver meals with the Hearts and Hands Program. He was a pilot, which he especially enjoyed, a certified diver, loved to hunt, fish, read, and the occasional golf game, but most of all he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Jim is survived by this wife, Amanda; daughter Kim Woods (Mario) of Brunswick, and sons Jim, Jr. (Jane) of Savannah, Lane (Alicia) of St. Simons Island; stepsons Ian Thompson (Rachel) of Orlando, Fl; and Ryan Thompson (Katie) of Yulee, Fl. His grandchildren include Lexie Woods, Jake Woods, Ashley Brennan (Owen), Molly Crouch (Brian), Ella Moore, David Moore, Blythe Thompson, Aubrey Thompson and great-grandchildren Hayley Johnson; Eloise, James and Lucy Brennan; and Margot and Genevieve Crouch.

Visitation will be Sunday evening, January 7, 2024 from 5 pm until 7 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Wesley Church at Frederica , Monday, January 8, 2024 at 1 pm with Reverend Lucas Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow in Satilla Baptist Church Cemetery in Hortense with Brian Crouch, Owen Brennan, Jake Woods, David Moore, El Moore, and Lexie Woods serving as pallbearers.
