Grier O’Bryan Gatch, 77, of Brunswick passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013. The family will receive friends from 2-3PM at Bible Baptist Church, 500 Harry Driggers Blvd, Brunswick, GA on Saturday, March 23, 2013. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Bible Baptist Church at 3PM with Rev. Mike Landrum officiating. Burial will follow at Palmetto Cemetery with Dustin Gatch, Russell Dugger, Steven Gatch, Kristofer Boatright, Zac Langford and Ben Blocker serving as pallbearers.
Grier was born September 17, 1935 to Eddie Gatch, Sr. and Lydia O’Brien in Yemassee, South Carolina. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1951-1971, then worked at H&H Service Center in Brunswick, Georgia for 20 years. He loved Blue Grass music and attending the Blue Grass festivals. He also enjoyed watching his sons race cars and being a race track official.
Grier is preceded in death by a son: Grier O’Bryan Gatch, Jr.; four sisters: Ruby Harrison, Vernelle Kay, Edna Brundage and Martha Jo Gatch; and two brothers: Judson Gatch and Eddie Gatch.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years: Shirley Gatch; one daughter: Lydia O’Donnell (Bob) and one son: Roger Gatch (Karen) all of Brunswick; a sister: Marie Stilo of Columbia, SC; 10 grandchildren: Cynthia Gatch, Alicia Blocker (Ben), Steven Gatch (Morgan), William Deloach, Russell Dugger, Amber Power (Gavin), Brandon O’Donnell, Randy Watson (Ashley), Dustin Gatch (Shannon), and Ashley Langford (Zach); 14 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his faithful K-9 companion: Koko.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Bible Baptist Church, Brunswick, Georgia. Arrangements are under the direction of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home,
