Ernest Holmes, Sr., age 86, of Brunswick, died Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick. Mr. Holmes was a life-long resident of Glynn County who proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church where he earned the Father of the Year title in 2012, and was an active member of the Genesis Sunday School Class. He was also an avid fisherman and gardener. He was preceded in death by his father, Joel Elvyn Holmes; his mother, Myrtle Ora Colson Holmes; a brother, Joel Alexander Holmes; a son, Kenneth Joel Holmes; and a wife, Thelma Griffis Holmes.
He is survived by three sons, Wayne Holmes (Jill), Ernest Holmes, Jr. and Scott Holmes, all of Brunswick; four step-children, Joyce Sheffield, Christine Shannon (Conrad), F. Douglas Mallard (Dianne), and Lee Roy Mallard (Ann); a brother, Daniel Foster Holmes; a sister, Jeanette Ficarelli; fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four nieces and one nephew.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 10:00 am at Lakeside United Methodist Church with Reverend Donald C. Combs officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Palmetto Cemetery.
