Mrs. Fields was born in Douglas, Georgia and was the daughter of the late John Cullen and Annie Mae Dorsey. She was a native of Appling County and graduated from Surrency High School. She has been a resident of Brunswick since 1968.
Mrs. Fields was the loving wife for 70 years to her husband John Hilton Fields Sr. In addition to her love of family, she is most remembered for her love of quilting, cooking, and flower gardening. Mrs. Fields was a member of College Place United Methodist Church.
She was a retired seamstress with Brunswick Manufacturing Company. She also had been employed with J.A. Jones Shipyard and the Glynn County School System.
The family will receive friends at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Reverend Wright Culpepper officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Handy Jernigan III, Randy Jernigan, James O. Langston III, Jered Fields, Dylan Jackson, Roby Jernigan, Randon Jernigan, and Dean Buie.
Mrs. Fields was preceded in death by her parents, John Cullen Dorsey and Annie Mae Dorsey; sisters, Lona Mae Williams and Vivian Etheridge; brothers, Marvin Dorsey and John William Dorsey. She is survived by her caring husband, John Hilton Fields Sr. of Brunswick; one son, John Hilton Fields Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; three daughters, Brenda Fields Jernigan (Handy), Cynthia Fields Langston, and Pamela Fields Jackson (Randy), all of Brunswick; two sisters, Betty Jean Spivey of Ocoee, FL, Levonia Wilkinson (Gene) of Marietta, GA; eight grandchildren, Handy Jernigan III (Carla), Randy Jernigan (Christa), Sandra Jernigan Buie (Dean), Jennings Bryan Fields, James O. Langston III (Kati), Jered Fields (Molly), Mallory Jackson Clark (Devin), and Dylan Jackson; fifteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. However her family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
