Darrell Keith Cody, age 62, of Brunswick, died Sunday. Darrell was a lifelong resident of Glynn County and was a 1970 graduate of Glynn Academy. In his youth, Darrell worked at his family’s business, Cody’s Restaurant. Afterwards he began his career in the funeral business at Gibson-Hart-Durden Funeral Home where he worked for many years. He then worked for Glynn County Public Works for 11 years. While at the Public Works Department, Darrell worked part time for FLETC for 5 ½ years and also served as a Volunteer Fire Fighter for Glynn County. He then joined the staff of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home where he worked for 13 years prior to his illness. He was also the owner and operator of Cody’s Mortuary Transport for 17 ½ years. Darrell was a member of the Masonic Lodge 717, and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and St. James Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Cody, Sr. and a brother, Rusty Cody, Jr. Darrell was a special and unique individual. He was born on mother’s day, 1951 and died on father’s day, 2013. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Teresa Torkildsen Cody; two sons, Joel Cody (Heather) of St. Simons Island and Derrick Cody of Brunswick; his mother, Glennie Cody Gettinger of Brunswick; two grandsons, Addison and Dustin Cody, both of Brunswick; two granddaughters, Braylee Cody and Sophia Richardson, both of Brunswick; three nieces, Shanna Aderhold (Bob) of Albany, Erica Cathey (Dustin) of Brunswick and Heather Cason (Ray) of Brunswick; two nephews, Rocky Williford of Brunswick and Dana Williams of Callahan, FL; four great nieces, G.G. Aderhold of Albany, Alice Aderhold of Albany, Harriett Cathey of Brunswick and Carlee Williford of Brunswick; three great nephews, Spencer Cason of Brunswick, Zack Williford of Brunswick and Preston Williams of Callahan. Numerous cousins also survive.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm in the funeral home Chapel with burial following in Palmetto Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Joel Cody, Addison Cody, Derrick Cody, Dustin Cody, Dana Williams and Preston Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Lana Skelton and staff, Dr. James Greene and staff and the staff of Hospice of the Golden Isles.
