Mr. Strickland was a lifelong resident of Brunswick, Georgia. He was the son of the late Raymond Laverne and Mildred Edward Strickland. He was a graduate of Glynn Academy. He was also married for fifty-five years to his loving wife Marie Sheward Strickland. They were blessed to have three children. Mr. Strickland served his country with honors and retired with the United States Navy. After serving his country, he retired from Kroger and TJ Maxx. He was an active member at Advent Christian Church where he served as an Elder. He was a member of the Masonic Ocean Lodge 214 in Brunswick, Georgia.
The funeral service to honor his life will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Advent Christian Church in Brunswick, Georgia. Reverend C. Michael Metlock will officiate the service and Marihelen Newman will also speak. Reverend Charles W. Jones will give a heartfelt eulogy. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at 10:00 AM at the church. The interment will follow the service at the Glennville National Cemetery in Glennville, Georgia.
The active pallbearers serving will be Jamie Smith, Chris Jones, Terry Corey, Brian Burbage, Jonathan Crews, Robbie Strickland, and Justin Corey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Anne Rivers, Barbara Smith, Mary Jo Holland, Jim Holland, Ray Angle, Brad Daniels and the members of Advent Christian Church.
Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Laverne and Mildred Edward Strickland; one son; Charles Edward Strickland Jr. He is survived by his wife, Marie Sheward Strickland of Brunswick, GA; one son, David Strickland of Brunswick, GA; one daughter, Hope Strickland of Brunswick, GA; a special family friend, Amanda Holland (like a daughter) of Brunswick, GA; a granddaughter, Jessica Strickland of Jesup, GA; two brothers, LaVerne Strickland (Lavera) of Brunswick, GA and Lee Strickland (Linda) of Darien, GA; two brother-in-law’s, Charles Jones (Mary) of Brunswick, GA and Ray Angle of Brunswick, GA.
Mr. Strickland loved to spend time with his family and friends. He also took pleasure in researching his family ancestry. He enjoyed reading and traveling. He was also an Eagle Scout. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. However, his family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
