Carlton Desha Burgess Jr.

Carlton Desha Burgess Jr., "Mac" as he was affectionately known, 80, of Brunswick, Georgia entered into eternal rest, Friday, September 3. 2021. He was the son of the late Carlton Desha Burgess, Sr. and Alberta Colette Burgess.

Left to cherish Mac’s memories are his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Merlene Copeland Burgess, of Brunswick, Georgia. Three sisters, Jane Carolyn Brunegraff, Georgia Burgess-Erwin and Mary Davis (Harry). One brother, Charles Burgess (Kathy) and many nieces and nephews.

Mac was a 1958 Graduate of Glynn Academy and a Sergeant in the Air National Guard from 1960-1969. He was the owner of Burgess Wholesale and former Member of the Brunswick Exchange Club where he received many awards for Service. Mac was a devout Catholic, lifelong Parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, recipient of the Catholic Gartland Award (2014), and volunteered In many aspects of the Church. He volunteered time and cooked for the Horsestamp Methodist Church, which is his wife’s Church.

Mac enjoyed cooking and traveling with family and friends. Mac will be remembered most for being the Family Patriarch. He touched so many with his generous nature and was always there to assist family and friends with whatever was needed. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.

The Visitation and Rosary will be held Friday, September 24, 2021, from 5pm to 7pm at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, September25, 2021 at 11am at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Timothy McKeown officiating. The Burial will follow the Service at Ella Park Cemetery, 4912 Dover Bluff, Waverly, GA 31565

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Brunswick, Georgia.
