Born, Mary Barbara Strobert on July 7, 1937 in Savannah, GA, she was the daughter of the late Mary Lyvonia Strobert and Julian Francis Strobert.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Virgil Otter of St. Simons Island; her two daughters, Laura Otter of Little Rock, AR and Andrea Otter of Minneapolis, MN; her son, Christopher Otter of St. Simons Island, GA; and her six granddaughters, Allison, Adrienne, Alexandra, Sydney, Emily and Isabella.
Barbara and Virgil married in Savannah, GA on January 14, 1956, shortly after Virgil completed his Air Force service. They lived most of their married life in the Golden Isles. Barbara was a fierce advocate for her children, dedicated to ensuring that they achieved a higher level of education than she had the opportunity to pursue. She touched many lives in the community through her service as Brunswick Hospital’s Director of Volunteer Services, and then roles with Glynn County Mental Health Association, Sea Island Company and Glynn County Human Resources. Upon her retirement, she volunteered as a ranger at Fort Frederica. She was an avid bridge player, had a wry wit, an unending intellectual curiosity, and a scholar’s memory for history and nature. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
