Andy was born on September 23, 1927 to the late Andrew H. Tostensen and Wilda Allen Tostensen. He was also preceded in death by his devoted wife, Anne W. Tostensen; a brother, Jack Tostensen; and a sister, Sue Tostensen.
After graduating from Glynn Academy in 1945, Andy joined the Navy. He served his country faithfully during World War II, in the Pacific Theatre, aboard the USS Chikaskia. Upon discharge, he resumed his education at Young Harris College and was later employed by Brunswick Pulp & Paper Co. He retired with 43 years of employment.
Andy was a man of many talents and interest. He was an avid reader with a personal library that would rival some public libraries. He was a historian, with an immense knowledge of local Glynn and McIntosh history. He was a sportsman and had a passion for scuba diving. He particularly enjoyed diving the shipwrecks 0f Florida and the Caribbean’s. Andy was also one of Glynn County’s first black-water rescue divers and was always first in line to give a helping hand. Andy was a member of Marshes of Glynn Baptist Church. He was devoted to his church and church family. His greatest joy was sharing his life with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who experienced his love and friendship.
Andy is survived by his sons, Andrew “Speedy” Tostensen (Sandy) and Samuel Allen “Sammy” Tostensen (Karen); a sister-in-law, Louise C. Tostensen; former wife, Hannah Desoto; stepchildren, Steve Brown (Ingrid) and Bess Wolfes (Teddy); grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The service will be held at a later date.
