Dr. Allen B. Womble, 80, of Brunswick, passed away Friday, April 16, 2010 after a long illness. Visitation will be from 4:00PM until 6:00PM Monday afternoon April 19, 2010. A celebration of life will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Love, Rev. Ron Stinson and Dr. Larry Boyette officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dale and Jackie Mitchum, Herbert and Mildred Rogers, George and Nina Owens, Bill and Lib Rayburn, Earl and June Brazell, James and Margaret Harris, Lawrence and Connie Davis, Lloyd and Ruth Corbitt, Henry and Kathy Allen, Golden Isles Camping club, Sojourners Sunday School Class, Brunswick Shrine Club, Masonic Ocean Lodge 214 F&AM and Stay Focused Eye Care.
Dr. Allen B. Womble was born April 22, 1929, in Claxton, GA. He graduated from Richmond Hill High School. He attended Georgia Southern University and graduated from The University of Tennessee and Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. He practiced optometry in Metter, GA for 8 years and Brunswick, GA for 32 years, most recently at Stay Focused Eye Care.
Dr. Womble served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Sojourners Sunday School Class, Brunswick Shrine Club, Masonic Ocean Lodge 215 F&AM, Civil Air Patrol, Georgia Optometric Association and Society of Professional Optometrists.
Dr. Womble is survived by his wife, Sadie Sikes Womble, a son Dr. Brian Womble, a daughter and son in law Dr. Leonard and Becky Pace, three grandchildren, Brooke Pace, Kimberly and Nick Campbell, and Artie Womble, a brother, Ira S. Womble and wife Shirley, a niece, Renee’ Thurmond and nephew Dr. Sherman Thurmond.
Dr. Womble’s many hobbies included traveling with his RV Club, aviation, boating, fishing and motorcycle riding. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
