He was born on December 17, 1932 in Beaumont, Texas. Joe was a watch repairman and salesman, who started his career at Whitman’s Army Store in 1958, but worked at various jewelry stores throughout his life in Brownsville, Texas, including R. L. Lackner’s, Zales, Sweeney’s, Rio’s Jewelry and Joe’s Watch Repair.
Joe was a kind and loving father who placed his family first above all other things.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rebecca O. Martinez and son, Pedro.
He will be greatly missed by his surviving family: Martha R. Munoz (James), Maria Rebecca Garza (Ricardo), Joe “Pope” Martinez (Debbie), Juan A. Martinez( Leticia), Patricia A. Saldivar (Robert), Elsa M. Thomas (Kermit), Hilda Ramirez (Hugo), and twelve grandchildren: Eliza, Isaac, Jazzy, Jordan, Madison, Stephen, Sarah, Christian, Romelo, Krystiana, Alex, and Leann.
Our family would like to extend our gratitude to the Heart Institute of Brownsville, Dr. Lorenzo R. Pelly, Dr. Juan H. Gonzalez, and the ICU nurses and doctors from Solara Hospital who cared for our father so attentively.
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:6.
Visitation will be from 3-9 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011 with a rosary at 7pm at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista.
Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 10 am on Wed. December 21, 2011, 1218 E. Jefferson St, Brownsville, Texas.
Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
