Araceli O. Lopez went to be with the Lord peacefully, at the age of 84, at Valley Regional Center on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, with her loving family at her side. Her kind spirit, smile, and laughter live on in her children, their children and for many generations to come. She served for the Cameron County Elections Office for over 20 years, as the Presiding Judge for Precinct 6. The Lord called her by name and Araceli knew it was time to go home and she is in His glory, no more pain, no more suffering just rejoice in the Kingdom of God.
Araceli is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Juan B. Lopez and her parents, Jose and Felicitas Ojeda, and siblings, Ruth Gracia and Jose Ojeda.
Mrs. Lopez is survived by her beloved children, Juan B. Lopez Jr. (Sara) of Pearland, TX, Irma Cantu of Brownsville, Eduardo Lopez of Brownsville, Rogerio Lopez (Ruthie) of Cudahay, WI, Armando Lopez (Graciela) of Brownsville and Agustin Lopez of Brownsville; 20 grandchildren, 6 of which she raised and loved as her own, Corina Guerrero, Rosario Cantu, Roy Edward Cantu Jr., Javier Cantu, Araceli Cantu and Peter Cantu; 53 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Jesus Ojeda, Estella Gamez, and Rosa Reyes; numerous nephews, nieces, and other relatives.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 23, 2011 from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2405 E. Tyler St.
Visitation will resume at 8:00 am on Saturday morning at Buena Vista Funeral Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church. Committal service will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Juan B. Lopez Jr., Eduardo Lopez, Rogerio Lopez, Armando Lopez, Agustin Lopez, and Peter Cantu.
