Shirley Jones Jernigan passed away Monday morning, February 15, and was received into the loving arms of her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. She was a loving wife, Mother, Grandmomma, Great Grandmomma, Sister and Aunt to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Virginia Jones and her husband James Pittman Jernigan. She leaves behind her daughter, Gege Jernigan Gornto (James), sons: Charles (Mahalley), Roy (Terrie), grandchildren: Jensie Chetelat (Steven), Amber Cameron (Eric), Ashley Gomes (John), Justin Jernigan (Alicia), Kevin Jernigan (Brianna) and 10 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings: Francis Palka, Hazel Snow, Mary Jean Patrick and Charles Jones (Elsie). Shirley was a long time member of Eden Baptist Church in Brooksville, Fl. where she faithfully attended until her health would no longer permit. She mentored young women in the church; she was a Sunday School and Training Union Teacher. She worked at Eden Christian School in the office. She and her husband, Pittman, worked as volunteers for the Alachua Baptist Association for many years. She opened her home to those in need and served others and her Lord all of her days. She was a true homemaker in every sense of the word. She was a phenomenal seamstress. She was a cook to be admired! Shirley was the neighborhood Mom to her children’s friends. We are celebrating her home going and the many wonderful memories we have of her! When we think of her we will smile! Visitation at 10:00 a.m. on February 19, 2016 with services to follow at 11:00 at Eden Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pruitt Health Hospice.com
