Margaret Lakis

Margaret Mary Lakis (Maguire) entered eternal life on December 11, 2020 at the age of 82 in Spring Hill, Florida. Margaret, or “Margie” as she was affectionately called, was a beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother, cousin, and a true and loyal friend to everyone fortunate enough to be embraced in her love. She had a zest for life, a contagious laugh, and a sense of merry mischief that accompanied the Irish twinkle in her eye. Born December 4, 1938 in Flushing, she raised her family on Long Island, New York.

A devoted Catholic, Margie was a parishioner of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and talked to Jesus like a friend. An avid horsewoman, she was always happy around a barn, and her love for dogs, especially Bichon Frises, spanned decades. But nothing made her happier than having her family and friends around her while she “threw an extra potato into the pot!”

When she retired to Spring Hill, Florida 25 years ago, she became the “Pied Piper” for siblings, cousins and friends who would also soon call the area home. She treasured her days of golf and social activities in their company. She was very active and social in Timber Pines, and was proud of her service on the Timber Pines Restaurant Committee.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Mary Margaret & Shaun Farley of South Burlington, Vermont; sons and daughters-in-law: Joseph & Trish Lakis of Lansdowne, Virginia, Lawrence & Shannan Lakis of Brooksville, Florida, and Gregory & Jennifer Lakis of Dix Hills, New York; eight grandchildren: Olivia Lakis, Ethan Lakis, Abigail Lakis, Branden Farley, Jennifer Farley,  Amelia Farley, Isabella Lakis, and Christian Lakis.
