Born June 28, 1936 in Worcester, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Joseph Sr. and Anna (Doherty) Le Clair. Joe graduated from St. Peter High School and The College of the Holy Cross in 1958 before joining the United States Army in 1959 where he worked in the medical records department at Brooks Army Hospital at Fort Sam in Houston, Texas until 1963. He then served two years in the Reserves until his discharge in 1965. He went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Education. While teaching in Grafton, Massachusetts he was President of the Teachers’ Association and was instrumental in negotiating a successful contract between the teachers and the school committee. Upon leaving the Grafton School Department he taught the remainder of his 33 plus year career in the Worcester School Department. He also taught Adult Basic Education to the inmates at the Worcester jail and coached elementary school football. He was Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and sang bass in the choir while living in Rutland, Massachusetts. He was also active in the Lion’s Club. Upon retiring, Joe and his wife, Mary, moved to Beverly Hills, Florida where again he became active in Our Lady of Grace Church. He was a member on the parish council and officer in the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. After moving to Brooksville he volunteered for several years at Habitat for Humanity. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony the Abbot Catholic Church, active in the St. Anthony’s men’s club until it disbanded, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #6800.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary M. Le Clair; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph M. & Michelle Le Clair of Oxford, Massachusetts; daughters and sons-in-law, Christine M. Siciliano of Niantic, Connecticut; Lisa M. & Joseph Wohlleib of Holden, Massachusetts, and Denise L. & Richard Rumore of Brooksville, Florida; six grandchildren, Michael Le Clair, Matthew Le Clair, Patrick Le Clair, Isabel Siciliano, Nicole Ozkan and her husband, Dean, and Alexander Wohlleib; one great-grandchild, Azra Ozkan.
