He was born July 4, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late John and Catherine Dougherty and came to this area 25 years ago. He served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Boca Raton, Florida. While serving he worked part time at a hotel where he met The Beatles and gave them a ride from Boca Raton to Miami, Florida. He also served as a Police Detective in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Prior to his retirement he worked as a truck driver, along with his wife, for Walmart where he logged over 1.5 million miles in 17 years. John and his wife, Linda, would have been married 19 years on June 12th and as she stated, “living with John was like a dream come true.” John was able to have a reunion with his brother and three sisters recently and was very grateful. He was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by his wife: Linda; daughters: Jennifer Allen of Florida and Laura Cohen of New Jersey; brother: Dan Dougherty; sisters: Peg Dougherty, Kathleen Carriere and Mary Kay Harold; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville Chapel.
