PICKERAL, Jesse Norman, Jr. age 88 of Brooksville, FL died Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Brooksville Regional Hospital. Born in Danville, VA he came here 8 years ago from Whispering Pines, NC. Mr. Pickeral retired from law enforcement after 23 years, during which time he was a mounted police officer in Washington, D.C. and was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran, serving aboard the USS Reid, which was sunk in the Pacific by the Japanese. He was a breeder of Morgan Horses and attended Faith Presbyterian Church, Brooksville.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years: Emma Lou; step-son: Gregory Hoover of Hilton Head, SC; brother & sister-in-law: Terri & Jennifer Pickeral of Billingham, WA; sisters & brothers-in-law: Annette & Royce Lee of Idaho Falls, ID and Renee & Ronald Lewis of Lodi, CA; dear cousins: Linda Adams of Danville, VA, Peyton Mahaffey of Virginia and Frances Mahaffey of Danville, VA. He was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Cheryl Hoover.
A memorial gathering will be held 2 – 4pm, Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville, Florida. Funeral services and burial will be at a later date in NJ. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Humane Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
