March 30, 1934 - June 10, 2023
Vincent Andrew Apicella passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home at the age of 89. He was born and raised in Washington Heights, to the late Andrew and Mildred Apicella, and was a caring brother to the late Camille and Rita.
A proud alumnus of NYU and Brooklyn Law, Vincent devoted his life to the pursuit of knowledge and hard work. He found the love of his life, the late Josephine Pontone, with whom he built a beautiful life in Park Slope, and they were blessed with a devoted family.
Vincent's legacy lives on in his children: Andrew and Rosina, Jennifer and Scott, Stefanie and Jeff; and his beloved grandchildren: Darla (Henry), Vincent, Andrew, Josie, Brooke, and Vivian. He was the first family member to greet each of his grandchildren upon their birth, a testament to his deep commitment to family.
Vincent was a remarkable man who lived a long and fulfilling life. An aficionado of New York history and a great chef, his passions extended to running on the boardwalk of Seaside Park and going to the 92nd Street Y. With his close-knit group of friends, he found joy in daily conversation and shared meals.
Known for his regular check-in calls, Vincent continuously expressed his care and love for his family members, ensuring they knew they were always in his thoughts. His meticulous note-keeping was a testament to his diligence and attention to detail, carefully marking birthdays, appointments, and other significant events on his paper calendar.
Vincent's successful law practice, built in partnership with his friend Phil, stands as a testament to his dedication and hard work. Remarkably, he navigated his career and personal life without ever relying on a computer or owning an iPhone.
Vincent's adventurous stories, his wisdom, and the depth of his love will forever be missed. He was a man who left an indelible mark on all who knew him, and he was loved beyond measure.
The family will hold viewing hours at the Joseph G. Duffy Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 14 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Thursday, June 15 at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Vincent's name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
We take comfort in knowing that Vincent's life was not just lived, but truly celebrated. His memory will live on in the stories we share, the love we remember, and the legacy he leaves behind.
