She was a lifelong artist, an award-winning watercolorist, and long-time resident of Bennington, VT.
Mrs. Gordon (nee) Needleman was born in Bennington and educated in local schools. She went on to Syracuse University, where she received a degree in Fashion Design. Taking a position in Manhattan, as fashion buyer, Sylvia met and married harold Gordon of Brooklyn. She moved back to Bennington to take over her family's clothing store for women (originally The Boston Shop, later Fashion Fair). Sylvia and her husband lived on Elm Street and raised two sons there. She was an active member of the Bennington community known for her artistic ability, sharp mind, and discerning wit. In 1982 after a move to Beverly Hills, Florida, Sylvia became an award-winning watercolorist. In 2000, she moved to Madison, AL, where she continued to receive accolades for her watercolor still-life studies and countryside landscapes. She also taught drawing and watercolor arts athe local Senior Center.
She is survived by her brother, Jerry, her sons, Marc and Steven, three grandchildren, Benjamin, Nicholas and Sean. and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside Services were held at New Montefiore Cemetery, Pinelawn, NY.
