Rob was born on January 26, 1957 to Ann and Phil Sadowski in Marinette WI. After graduating from Coleman High School in 1975, he went on to study German and Psychology at UW-Madison including a year of study in Freiburg Germany. After moving to NY, Rob went on to receive his JD from Brooklyn Law School and an LLM in Taxation from NYU Law School.
After earning his JD, Rob first worked as a trial attorney for the IRS followed by 14 years with the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. While at the US Attorney’s Office, Rob held the position of health care fraud coordinator, where he was responsible for supervising all civil health care fraud prosecutions. He also supervised the investigation, litigation and settlement of fraud prosecutions under the False Claims Act.
Rob entered private practice by working at Olshan followed by Diamond McCarthy. In 2013 Rob started his own firm specializing in qui tam cases, where he successfully prosecuted cases in many areas, including elder care fraud, disability rights, wrongful termination cases, bankruptcy litigation, investment fraud, and tax fraud.
Rob was an adjunct professor at Brooklyn Law School and a faculty member of Lawline. Rob frequently spoke to lawyers, accountants and health care professionals about whistleblowers and the False Claims Act, fraud topics, and healthcare law issues, and has made numerous television appearances.
Throughout his career, Rob received numerous awards including: United States Attorney’s Office Attorney General’s John Marshall Award, United States Attorney’s Office Director’s Award for Superior Performance, and had been a Super Lawyer since 2008.
While studying in Freiburg Germany, Rob met Mary Jean Pavelsek. They moved to Brooklyn in 1982 and married in 1987. Over the years their love of dogs led them to adopt over 20 dogs. They enjoyed travel, good food, good friends and generally having a good time.
Rob was predeceased by parents, Ann and Phil Sadowski; brother, Richard Sadowski (Suzi). Rob is survived by wife, Mary Jean Pavelsek of Brooklyn NY; sister Beverly Rocque (James) of Arkansas; many beloved nieces and nephews; honorary family members Klaudia Chudzik and Radomir Iwanczuk and Kalani Iwanczuk; bestie Javier Santiago.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday September 17th at 39 Prospect Place Brooklyn, NY. Please feel free to stop by between 1pm and 4pm. Remarks at 2:30pm.
