Michael Waldman passed away in his sleep on the morning of December 28 at Memorial Sloan Kettering. He was comfortable and at peace.
He is survived by his loving wife Helen, son Aaron, stepson Larry, stepdaughter Jordan, sister Kathy, nephew Scott, and niece Emily. He adored Jaden, Shyla, London, and Noa, and was thrilled and proud to be their grandpa.
His late wonderful parents Murray and Beatrice gave him unconditional love, and taught him responsibility, honesty, humility, and empathy for those around him.
Michael was a quantitative financial analyst and a managing director for mortgage research. He was brilliant in applied mathematics, and pioneered techniques for analyzing mortgage and other securities.
He has two master degrees in mathematics from New York University. The first was in 1969, and the second in 2011, which is noteworthy because he was battling lymphoma at the time.
Michael had a gift of having compassion for others. He was genuinely interested in people, and enjoyed listening to their stories. Quite a few asked him for advice and other assistance, and Michael tried his best to help with generosity of time and resources. Michael was patient and even tempered, and had a kind heart.
Michael loved his friends that he had known almost his entire life. He had a strong bond with them, and they have been a blessing.
Michael enjoyed the simple things in life, a close loving family, old friends, new friends, good food, good music, and Prospect Park.
Those who wish may attend the viewing at Duffy funeral home on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, January 2,3,4, from 2 pm to 7 pm.
A Jewish funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 5 at the chapel at Greenwood cemetery at 11 am. He will be buried at Greenwood.
