John was born in Brooklyn, and graduated from Erasmus High School. He served in the U.S Army from 1953-1955 in the Korean War. Upon his return home, he married the love of his life, Mary Byrnes, in 1956. Together they raised three children (Deborah, Edward, and John J.). He had a long career as a data processing manager in the finance industry. John was proud of his Irish heritage and would love to sing Irish songs whenever anyone would let him. In addition, he was a die-hard New York Giants football team fan. He also enjoyed bowling, and participated in many local bowling leagues. After spending most of his life in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn, he resided at Sunrise Assisted Living in Jackson, NJ for the past six years. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his brother Joseph, and his sisters Eileen and Kathleen. He is survived by his children Deborah (John) Cioffi, Edward (Margaret) Kelly, and John J. Kelly. He is also survived by his grandchildren Daniel (Kate) Cioffi, Nicole Cioffi, Christopher Cioffi, Erin Kelly and Patrick (Madison) Kelly, and lastly his great-granddaughter Bella. He is also survived by his brother Donald. A visitation will be held Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at M.J. Smith Sons Funeral Home, 255 9th st., Brooklyn, NY 11215. A Mass of Christian burial will occur on Friday May 26, 2023 at 11am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2805 Fort Hamilton Parkway, Brooklyn, NY 11218
