John Rowland, 52, of Staten Island NY passed away at Weill Cornell Medical Center on January 26, 2017, surrounded by the love and support of his family and friends. John was a selfless individual with a heart of gold. To know John was to love him. John’s compassion and love for his family and all of those around him was breathtaking. John never failed to jump at any opportunity and handled every transition in his life with grace, poise and dignity. It seemed as if he was born to do everything, rising to every challenge personally and professionally. Upon joining the NYPD in 1988, John found his professional calling. He knew that he was destined to help others, and spent his entire professional career doing so. John exemplified all the good qualities that a Police Officer should have. Promoted through the ranks to Lieutenant, he was a well-rounded individual with strong leadership skills. He was respected by all who worked with him, whether above or below him in rank. John lived his life in service to others, a truly noble individual. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, son, uncle and friend. He will be missed forever but his legacy and all the work that he has done for this city, and for counter terrorism worldwide, will live on. John is survived by his wife Barbara, children Allyson Jack and Jason, his father John, sisters Mary and Roseanna, and brother James.
