Steven Mark Siegel

Of Prescott, Ariz., died suddenly on May 6 from an aortic dissection.

He was born in Boston on June 6, 1940 and raised in Brookline. He graduated from Brookline High School and Harvard College (1961). He majored in psychology and after college he advocated for halfway houses for people with psychiatric disabilities. He loved driving around Cambridge on his Vespa. He earned an MBA from Suffolk University and worked as a certified public accountant at Arthur Young and Co. in Providence, R.I. (later Ernst & Young).

After college, Steve and his wife of 53 years, Janis Lynn (Hodes) Siegel, lived in Central Square, Cambridge, then Needham, where they had two daughters, Dara and Sara, and then Hingham.

They moved to Maryland, then Scottsdale, Ariz. then Prescott. He worked as a business consultant. He was part of a weekly poker game. He was a lifelong Red Sox and Bruins fan, and never lost his love for the Atlantic Ocean. He spent time with family on Cape Cod, and summer vacations in Montana’s Big Sky country. He always had a dachshund and served on the board of directors for Yavapai Humane Society.

He leaves his beloved wife, daughters Dara Siegel of Pasadena, Calif., Sara Ryburn and her husband, Joshua, of Long Beach, Calif.; two granddaughters, Dailey and Romy; a brother, Howard Dean Siegel and his wife, Helen, of Boston and Key Biscayne, Fla.; a sister, Eileen (Siegel) Schwartz and her husband, Lawrence, of West Newton; and two nieces and two nephews.

Steve will be buried near his parents, Sibyl and Irving Siegel, at Lindwood Memorial Park, 497 North Street in Randolph. The graveside service will be held on Friday, May 12 at 2 p.m.
