SHALEK, Rosalind (Friedman) Of Boston, MA passed away on March 2, 2012 at the age of 88. Beloved wife of Dr. Seymour R. Shalek, devoted mother of Joan Nyman & her husband Philip Nyman of Andover, MA; Carol Yecies & her husband Paul Yecies of Sharon, MA; and James Shalek & his wife Nancy Shalek of Purchase, NY. Loving grandmother of Eric Yecies, Jackie Yecies Levy, Alex Shalek, Nicholas Shalek and Peter Shalek. Proud great-grandmother of Tyler & Brooke Yecies. Sister of Tobe Gerson & her husband Mort Gerson of New York City.
Rosalind, the daughter of the late Dr. Eli Friedman, a former Chief of Pediatrics at Boston City Hospital and his wife Edith, attended Girls’ Latin School and Wellesley College. She met her husband Seymour, who would later become a Radiologist at Beth Israel Hospital and Lecturer at Harvard Medical School, when they were teenagers. At the time of her passing, they had been married for almost 70 years.
With a firm grasp on business and investing, she was Business Manager of her husband’s medical practice for many years. When he retired, Rosalind went on to a new position as Assistant Business Manager of Pro Arte Orchestra in Cambridge, where she developed creative marketing ideas. She remained there until she was 82 years old.
She enjoyed traveling and taking diverse trips with each of her grandchildren. Rosalind, who was incredibly vital and active well into her 80s, enjoyed socializing with friends and family, and could often be found dining or playing bridge at the Harvard Club.

Services will be held at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 1668 Beacon St., BROOKLINE, MA on Monday Mar. 5, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. Interment immediately following at Adath Jeshurun Cemetery, 350 Grove St., W. Roxbury, MA.
Memorial Observance will be held at her late residence immediately following interment.
