Rebecca “Becky” Thomas, revered as a pillar of strength, bravery, and unyielding independence, passed away on December 3, 2024, in Newton MA.
Born in 1934, Rebecca was known for her generosity, her gift of intellectual conversations, and her undeniable love for animals.
Rebecca will be warmly remembered by her beloved daughters, Claude Miles, Rachel Stein and her children Jessica and Andrew, Carole Aghassi and her children Sophia and Hannah, her sister Rachel Diamant and her nephew Richard Diamant. She is joined in rest by her mother, Jeanne and her father, Mayer, and many other loved ones throughout her life. Rebecca’s reach was far as it was wide, and she was cherished deeply by many.
Rebecca cherished the finer things in life, she appreciated traveling, fine dining, great friends, and an abundance of laughter. She was a dedicated grandmother, lovingly known as “Dubbie” who went above and beyond to find time to share her experiences and stories with Jessica, Andrew, Sophia, and Hannah. Rebecca regularly took her grandchildren to the Cheesecake Factory followed by a trip to the bookstore. She instilled lifelong values of honesty, integrity, and candor with all her family members.
Among Rebecca’s most significant accomplishments of opening two restaurants, one in Brookline and one in Boston, she built lasting friendships within the community and left a legacy of memories for all those who knew her. She shared her knowledge by mentoring upcoming business entrepreneurs and women owned businesses, volunteered at the Newton Wellesley Hospital, and the Newton Public Library.
Rebecca’s loss is deeply felt by her family and all those who knew and loved her. Her memory will continue to live on and inspire strength, resilience, and generosity in those whose lives she touched.
Services will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 10:30am at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard Street, Brookline, MA. The service will be live streamed at www.levinelive.com/rebeccathomas
Burial will follow at Temple Emeth Memorial Park, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury, MA.
