Gloria, 
There was never a moment I didn't feel loved by you. 

Your passion for art, culture, photography, and most importantly, people have shaped my perspective of the world and how I treat others. 

I have this distinct memory of you, Nanny, and I at the beach. I was laying in the sand, chasing seaguls, and playing with my doll while you watched from afar and snapped glimpses of the most perfect day. Recently, Nanny told me that was such a  "happy moment" for you. But you, Gloria, were the happy moments for all of us. 

Words can't begin to describe the role you played in our family. Truly, it was an honor to grow up learning, evolving, and aspiring to be you.  Your strong will was evenly matched with a kind heart and a vibrant soul. I'll continue to tell your stories about the world and let your light illuminate through our family, and those to come. 

Rest in the sweetest peace, we love you. 


My heart will never be the same without, our Gloria. I am so grateful to have had someone so genuine, unique, intelligent and loving in my life.

If there was one thing Gloria and I did together, it was laugh—usually at ourselves, sometimes at the expense of others. My heart aches knowing I’ll never hear the sound her laughter again, but it will live on in my memory forever.

Gloria also taught me about art, politics, history, friendship and, most importantly, life. She was my biggest supporter—Gloria had this special way of making people feel seen, heard and understood, and that is rare. She saw potential in me even when I couldn’t see it in myself.

Let us not forget, though, that Gloria was one tough cookie. One of the strongest women I know—she was honest, opinionated and brilliant. If you wanted the truth, you went to Gloria. She never hesitated to speak her mind, and I hope to be half the woman she was one day. 

Gloria—you have no idea how many lives you touched so deeply. I love you.

I was blessed to have Gloria in my life for 60 years and thankful to have been loved by this incredible woman.  I have so many memories to cherish. They start with to being a  little girl waiting  patiently at the train station for her to arrive  to  being an adult, waiting for my phone to ring at 7am for our early morning conversations.  I will miss Gloria everyday.  I am so grateful to God,  that I had her in my life and for giving my Mother her best friend.  Gloria's light will always shine in my heart forever.

I am so blessed to have had the pleasure of knowing Gloria.  She tried to foster my artistic nature (or lack thereof). Nonetheless, Gloria would take the time to paint with me. 

Gloria also taught me the proper way to enjoy grilled cheese. She will always be with me when I cook one.

I am so very blessed to have had Gloria in my life. I will forever cherish her memory and hold her in my heart. 

My heartfelt condolences to the family. 

Among the many things that Gloria and I shared with one another was a respect for words and expression. Those who know me know how much I value the word “love.” I feel that many parade this word about, turning one of the most sacrosanct and holy words in our language into empty window dressing that gets liberally applied to everything from favorite foods to popular music. Gloria was not this way. Gloria understood that love is a choice, and that love, once bestowed upon someone, is fierce and absolute. There was never any wondering about those whom Gloria loved and held dear. She touted them, lifted them up, and sang their praises from the rooftops. I share Gloria’s reverence for love, but I wish so much to gain her courage to express it.
If Gloria’s battle over the past few years can teach us anything, it ought to be that we all need some of her courage not just in loving one another, but in telling each other as much. I’m sure that between the sleepovers, fishing trips, visits to the fishing hall of fame, and regular discussions about political and personal events, Gloria probably had a pretty good idea that I loved her, but what I am most thankful for is that I was able to learn from her example over the 26 years that I’ve known her, and in her last days finally tell her just how deeply that love runs for her.
Whether it was regular history lessons, pottery classes, Burger King breakfast runs, or one of the many conversations catching up on our lives, the greatest part of it was being together. Gloria wasn’t just a best friend to my Nanny (Claudia), but became a part of our family by sheer force of love. Gloria may be gone, but I will make it a mission to ensure that her memory never passes on. I aim to raise children who not only remember Gloria’s curiosity, intellect, and passion, but also learn from this example as we try to bring more people like her into this world. I love you, Gloria; rest in paradise, and be forever enveloped in God’s everlasting love.

My deepest heartfelt condolences to the Weinstock family. I want to thank you for sharing Gloria with my family and me. I will forever cherish her and the memories we shared. 

As I searched desperately to find cherished photos of Gloria, I realized that she was always the person in our lives standing behind the camera and seldom wanted to be in front of it.

This photo was taken 43 years ago at my sweet 16 celebration, and I have no doubt that her camera was most likely pointed at my mother (Claudia) as that was the one person who could always bring a smile so bright  to her face. Their friendship spanned 60 years, I simply don’t know a world without Gloria in it. 

I remember as a child, waiting at the mailbox for postcards from Gloria’s travels. Her handwriting was as distinctive and unique as she was.

She made even the simplest of outings an adventure. Gloria was just one of those people who imprinted on your heart and left an indelible mark on every life she touched. 

She touched my life in ways that are far too great to ever put into words.  I can only say that I am so thankful to God, as Gloria was truly a blessing in my life.
