Barbara Michaelson Gould Shapiro of Chestnut Hill, MA, was born in Boston, MA in 1931 and lived a long, full life. She maintained an upbeat and cheerful outlook, made friends easily and maintained lifelong friendships.
She was always ready with a quick smile and words of encouragement. She was an advocate for many good causes, including volunteering for mental health care improvements and consumer protection assistance at WBZ Call for Action.
She was a devoted mother, wife, and role model for multiple generations of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a dancer, including performing with a Newton, MA seniors tap dance group well into her sixties. She enjoyed playing bridge and mahjong several times a week, and recently became an aficionado of Wordle. She was a lifelong learner, who became a surrogate "mom" to international graduate students from at least 8 countries, maintaining those relationships for decades.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Lyn Weiner; her children, Amy Gould, Ken Gould and his wife, Judy Sklare, and Ed Shapiro; her grandchildren, Jonathan Gould and his wife Becca Goldstein, and Becky Gould; her great-granddaughter, Miriam Rose; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
