Of Newton, MA age 89 passed away peacefully at home on August 21, 2023. Beloved wife of the late George E. Levin. Loving mother of Adam (Jodi), Peter (Samara) and Susan (Steven). Devoted grandmother of Sara, Peri, Sophia, Jamie, Esther and Jake. Anne was born in Boston and grew up in Newton where she later raised her family. Graduate of Bryn Mawr College and Harvard University School of Education. After earning a Masters Degree in education Anne was a dedicated teacher until retiring in 1986. After retiring, Anne did a lot of writing, mostly memoir, and had several pieces published in The Boston Globe.
Anne was politically active as a young woman, and remained passionate about social justice. She was an avid reader of both nonfiction and fiction. Anne and George traveled widely and instilled a sense of adventure and curiosity in their children and grandchildren. Since 1967 Anne and George spent much of their time in Holderness, NH. Anne continued to spend summers in Holderness after George’s death, and remained active in a local environmental preservation group*. She loved picking blueberries, baking pies with them and other fruit. Anne was an excellent cook and baker, and her children and grandchildren will cherish memories of family meals and precious pies. Perhaps Anne’s most remarkable and memorable gifts were her kind and gentle nature and her outstanding smile.
In the final years of her life, Anne moved to Waterstone at the Circle, an independent living community. At Waterstone, she made wonderful new friends, while remaining involved with old friends and family.
