Josephine Monaco, age 95, died on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, in a caring and loving nursing home community . From her birth, until her death, she was a strong, loving woman who was devoted to her family and friends. She always was there with an ear to listen and looked to help in any way she could contribute, even if that was just standing by the kitchen sink doing the dishes. She was born in the Bronx, NY, and was blessed with ten siblings and a loving family. During her years she saw so many changes in this world, but one thing always remained certain, the love she had for those around her. Her father Joseph Rota, owned Rota's Bar and Grille which was an Icon in the Bronx, and she spent many years helping her family. She married the love of her life, Carmine Monaco, at a young age of 19, and had four children of her own, Marie, Jean Ann (Charlie) , Charlie (Anne), and Judy (Alan). She was a homemaker, but got her hands dirty doing plumbing work, woodworking, wall papering, building doll houses and virtually anything she was determined to get done. Her passions were taking care of people, cooking and baking for her family and friends and having everyone over on Sunday's and Holiday's. Everyone being close together was important to her. She was a faithful person, and prayed to St Jude when someone was in need. Her favorite saying was, "I will do the work, and I will let God do the Worrying" She moved many times in her life and lived in New York, California, Florida and New Jersey. Later in life, she was a baker at Driftwood Middle School in Florida, worked for OB/GYN Doctors in New York, and then enjoyed working with Nursery children at Mt Tom Day School in New Rochelle. She was blessed with eight grandchildren (John, Diane, Jean Marie, Nancy, Jody, Christopher, Alexander, Amanda) and nine great grand children , and two great great grandchildren. She loved them with All Her Heart, and will be forever their "Nana" and everyone else's "Nana Jo".
May she now rest in peace. In lieu of flowers, a donation to St Jude's Children's Hospital in her memory would be fondly appreciated.
