Ralph “Dean” Thomas, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted servant of Christ, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents Ralph & Ruth Thomas of Independence, MO. Dean's journey on this earth was one of dedication, service, and love- leaving a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Dean was born in 1931 and raised in the Midwest with a spirit of duty and commitment. He served his country with honor as a Lieutenant in the United States Army, but his passion for service extended into his younger years as he was actively involved in ROTC during both high school and college. Dean's leadership and dedication were also clear in his involvement with the Boy Scouts, where he helped shape the lives of many young men.
Dean graduated from the University of Kansas and went on to have an extensive career in architectural engineering, working on hospitals, schools & constructing many commercial buildings. His work led him and his family to Clearwater, Florida in 1970, where he came to know Jesus as his personal Savior and gave his time and talents to the many ministries at Calvary Baptist Church.
After nearly 30 years of Florida life, Dean spent over 22 years semi-retired in the mountains of Maggie Valley, NC. Here he continued in his ministry of service while also spending much of his time on home improvements and creating life-long memories with his wife, grandchildren, and extended family and friends.
Above all, Dean was a follower of Christ. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and decisions. In his later years living in Franklin, TN, he found immense joy through volunteer service ministries as a member of Brentwood Baptist. He lived his faith openly, sharing his beliefs and serving his community with a heart full of compassion and grace.
Dean remained a loving husband for 57 years to his devoted wife, Jeanette, a treasured father to Anne (John) Duval, David (Wendy) Thomas, and Michael (Brandie) Thomas, and a doting “Papa” to his grandchildren: Emily Duval, Caroline (Brock) Rust, Ben Duval, Riley Thomas, Addie Thomas, Noah Thomas, and Gracie Thomas. His family was his pride and joy, and he found immense fulfillment in being part of their lives, providing guidance, support, and unwavering love.
Dean's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit and the values he imparted will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rest in peace, Ralph “Dean” Thomas. Your legacy of service, faith, and love will live on in your family & all the lives you touched.
